Volunteers have once again started digging out giant hogweed from along the margins of the Bollin – back breaking work, but thankfully this hard work is really paying dividends in terms of much lower numbers of plants and thus a safer environment.
With each giant hogweed flower head producing around 1500 seeds, which remain viable for up to 5 years there is still much to do, so more volunteers are always sought (so many advantages over going to the gym!) If you are able to lend a hand and be a volunteer please do CONTACT US and we will telephone to chat through what is involved and provide training and equipment should you decide to join the team.
For everyone enjoying the countryside along the Bollin – remain vigilant,
- don’t touch the plants, (which can cause severe burns),
- don’t allow children to play near them, and
- prevent your dogs touching them with their tender noses.
Stay safe.
Many volunteers turnout to clear Bowdon footpath
Sunday November 27th saw a great turn out of volunteers to clear leaves in order to keep the Grange Road/Ashley Bridge footpath open to walkers this winter. Along with the FOBB regulars, mums and staff from Bowdon Church School lent their muscle, as did those working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Keeping footpaths open as part of DoE award
Thanks to a total of 14 volunteers the local residents of Bowdon and Hale will be able to enjoy relatively mud free access to the Bollin this winter – thank-you one and all.
For anyone unable to attend, but who would like to support our efforts throughout the year in keeping the area safe and accessible please make a donation, however great or small, by following the link.
